Artist Statement

私は、主に銅を素材として、制作をしています。学生時代に銅版画をはじめました。
銅のバラ色に輝く気品ある佇まいと、
繊細で緻密な表現から衝動的で即興な表現までを受け入れるその寛容さに魅了されました。
銅版画は、最終的に紙に刷り上げたものが作品となります。しかしながら、
制作においては、銅との格闘？遊び？の時間が長く、制作過程で現れる銅の様々な表情を作品にしたいと思いました。
初めは、銅板を叩く、打ち出す、磨くなどで小さなレリーフを作り、ネックレスやキーホルダーにしました。
そこから、生活環境と制作活動のバランスをとり、銅線で作った骨組みにそのレリーフの銅板を細い銅線で編み付けていく現在の制作方法になりました。
いろんなリズムで打つ、ピカピカに磨く、撫でる、引っ掻く, etc.　
銅と戯れていると、ふと、金属の塊を石の中に見つけた古代人のワクワクを追想しているような気持ちになります。
まだ娘が小さかった頃、娘の手を引いて、銅屑を積んだカートを近くのリサイクル所に持って行きました。その場に電化製品の部品や電線がいくつも山に積んであるのを見て、娘が言いました。
"ここには作品がいっぱいあるねえ"
まさに先人たちの好奇心、創意工夫、ひらめきによる現代社会の創造物がそこにありました。
そして、次のサイクルを待っているのでした。
遥かなる営みの歴史の中で、私と銅との遊びはほんの一瞬に過ぎませんが、私は自分が今いる時空の中に見つけた物語を描きたいと思っています。
それは、生活のほんのひとひらを繋ぎ合わせたり、鼓動のリズムを刻む詩を綴ったりするようなものです。
そして、そんな遊びを続けるうちに思いもよらない物語が生まれるかもしれません。

I mainly use copper as my material for my work. I started copperplate printing when I was a student. I was captivated by the elegant appearance of the rose-colored copper and its tolerance for everything from delicate and precise expression to impulsive and improvisational expression.

Copperplate prints are ultimately completed as artworks when printed onto paper. However, in the production process, I spent a lot of time struggling or playing with copper, and I wanted to express the various expressions of copper that emerged during the production process in my work.
At first, I made small reliefs by hammering, stamping, and polishing copper plates, and made them into necklaces and keychains.
From there, I balanced my living environment and creative activities, and developed my current production method of weaving the copper plates of the reliefs with thin copper wire onto a framework made of copper wire.

Hitting with various rhythms, polishing them until they shine, stroking, scratching, etc.Playing with copper makes me feel like I'm reminiscing about the excitement of ancient people who found a lump of metal inside a stone.
When my daughter was little,I took her by the hand and took a cart full of copper scraps to a nearby recycling center.

There, she saw piles of electrical appliance parts and wires, and said,"There are so many creations here."
There were the creations of modern society, born from the curiosity, ingenuity, and inspiration of our ancestors.
And now, they are waiting for the next cycle.

My play with copper is only a moment in the vast history of human activity, but I want to portray the stories I find in the space-time I'm in now.
It's like piecing together tiny petals of life, or composing poetry that beats to the rhythm of a heartbeat.
And as we continue to play in this way, an unexpected story may be born.
